The mission of Toureen Boarding Kennels, started by P.J. Callanan back in 1928, has been carried on for over seven decades by brothers, uncles, aunts, grandsons, and cousins.

Toureen Boarding Kennels
P.J. Callanan and Dr. Bourke found Toureen Boarding Kennels in Brighton, Massachusetts.

1994

Union Square Veterinary Clinic
The family business expands again, this time into Somerville, and headed by Dr. Kevin and Dave Ahearn.

2012

Pleasant Animal Clinic
A full service veterinary with grooming services, this location was originally an extension of MAMC headed by Neil Callanan and John Callanan, MRCVS.

Pleasant Animal Clinic was closed in 2018.

1976

Brighton Animal Hospital
P.J.’s son Kevin Callanan, MRCVS, expands the family business with Brighton Animal Hospital.

2003

R.I. Animal Medical Center
and 
Four Paws Pet Resort
Dr. Kevin’s son, Charles, expands the family business into Rhode Island with a 13,000 sq. ft. full service veterinary and pet care facility.

2016

Facility Renovations

  • Union Square receives a total renovation, adding orthopedic surgery and grooming.
  • Neponset receives an exterior facelift.

Neponset Animal Hospital
P.J.’s brother Tommy and nephew Joe open Neponset Animal Hospital just over the Quincy town line in Dorchester.

2006

Massachusetts Animal Medical Center (MAMC)
Headed Dr. Kevin’s sons, Charles, Neil and John, Brighton Animal Hospital is fully renovated and renamed MAMC.

2019

Brookline Veterinary Center

Our newest veterinary center, located in the heart of Washington Square in Brookline, offers full medical care for dogs, cats, and small animals.
